QumPreFall interim results show: QUMEA significantly reduces falls in delirium patients

The digital mobility monitoring system QUMEA, which recognises tendencies to get out of bed and falls in patients with delirium, was able to achieve a 43% reduction in falls compared to conventional methods.

The study ‘AI Supported Delirium Management 2.0’ by Dr phil. Wolfgang Hasemann et al. shows impressive interim results:

More effective prevention and less care required
The data collected from December 2022 to October 2023 includes 119 elderly patients with an average age of 84 years, in whom a total of 49 falls (29 of which occurred when getting out of bed) were documented. The risk of falling was almost twice as high in the comparison group with traditional bedside mats than with QUMEA, with the night-time hours showing a particularly high risk – the risk increased 7.6-fold here. Bell mats also led to 34.17% more bed abandonment alerts, which increased the daily nursing effort per patient by 11%.

QUMEA, on the other hand, significantly reduced the number of alerts and enabled nursing staff to respond more quickly. In addition, the system relieved the burden on carers considerably by detecting falls reliably and objectively – a clear improvement in patient safety.

The results show that nursing staff are completely satisfied with QUMEA. The survey focussed on benefits, reliability, user-friendliness, data protection and alarms: 100% of the nursing staff surveyed rated the system positively, with 42% rating it as ‘very good’ and 58% as ‘good’.

Acceptance and user ratings have remained consistently high over two years and even increased during the study period. These results prove that QUMEA is an effective support for nursing staff and meets with great approval.
