QUMEA convinces all along the line

During a trial period of several months at the Cantonal Hospital Baselland, QUMEA was convincing all along the line. The inconspicuous high-tech system will now provide valuable services in acute geriatrics at the Liestal site as well as at the Bruderholz site.

The feedback from the nursing staff as well as the evaluations speak for themselves: Not only was it possible to reduce the number of falls, but the system also provided valuable insights into the activity and sleep patterns of the patients. Thanks to the early and targeted alerting, the nursing staff experienced a noticeable relief. This effect was particularly noticeable during the night shift. Thus, after the test, the nurses clearly plead for a further and station-wide use of the technology. The high level of acceptance is also due to the negligible false alarm rate of less than 1% during the entire test period and the completely anonymous nature of the system. These are also important reasons for the equally high acceptance of the system among patients and their relatives, who were impressed by the passive and unobtrusive protection.

The goal stated by Cornelius-Monroe Huber, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), at the beginning of the project, namely to recognize even better and more individually what patients need, has been more than achieved: «We have found that we cannot prevent some of the falls with the current fall prevention tools because the reaction time is not sufficient. Since we can now determine a patient’s movement pattern with QUMEA, we have significantly more time to react. This is a big plus for both patients and staff in terms of patient safety,» says the CNO.

But that’s not all: KSBL also wants to be available to QUMEA as a research partner and thus accompany the development of additional nursing and medical functionalities. For Cyrill Gyger, CEO of QUMEA AG, this is a stroke of luck: «We are extremely pleased not only to welcome KSBL as another innovative customer, but also to be able to count on the hospital’s expertise in the development and validation of future functions.»
